Developed smectics: when exact solutions agree.
In the limit where the bending modulus vanishes, we construct layer configurations with arbitrary dislocation textures by exploiting a connection between uniformly spaced layers in two dimensions and developable surfaces in three dimensions. We then show how these focal textures can be used to construct layer configurations with finite bending modulus.

Theoretical and experimental research on language has nowadays reached an extraordinary level of complexity. Generative linguistics has produced detailed maps of syntactic structures and computations that have significantly contributed to our knowledge of language architecture as an abstract system (Rizzi, 2012; Everaert et al., 2015). Psycho-/neurolinguistics has developed complex experimental...
متن کاملSolutions for Developed Economies
The negative effects of a high level of government debt are now generally acknowledged. The extensive borrowing of past years has enlarged the share of interest payments in government spending, thus restricting the scope for future fiscal policy action. There is very little prospect of being able to initiate economic recovery by way of expansive fiscal policy. High deficits and rising debt rati...
متن کاملSolutions for Developed Economies
Providing the solution to the debt and deficit problems of developed economies is too big a task. I doubt it is possible to offer general recipes that can apply to all industrial countries, despite the surprisingly common origins of the deficit problems documented by the Mussa and Masson paper in this conference. For example, while in most countries accumulated social security liabilities repre...
متن کاملSolutions for Developed Economies
In structuring this conference, the organizers have made the sensible decision to devote separate sessions to the problems of developing and developed countries. When attempting to confront unsustainable fiscal policies, developed economies are relieved of many of the economic constraints with which developing countries must deal. With greater wealth, more stable and credible governments, and m...
